Privacy policy
Overlap works because people share when they are free. That only holds if the sharing is narrow and predictable. This page says exactly what we collect, why, and what we never look at.
01The short version
- We collect what the product needs to find a time: who you are, the events you are in, and the times you mark.
- We never read the contents of your calendar. If you connect one, we use free and busy only.
- Other people see the times you marked, never your calendar, never your other events.
- We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising.
02What we collect
- Account details. Your name, email address, and the sign-in method you chose.
- Event data. Events you create or are invited to, the times you mark, poll votes, agenda and itinerary entries, and expense records you add.
- Guest answers. If you answer an invitation without an account, the name you gave and, if you provided one, your email for the confirmation.
- Technical data. Device type, app version, crash reports and basic usage events, used to fix problems.
03Your calendar
Connecting a calendar is optional and can be switched off at any time. When it is on, Overlap reads free and busy windows only. Titles, guests, locations and notes are never requested, never stored and never shown to anyone. Access tokens are encrypted before they are stored.
Overlap may also ask you, weekly or monthly, to mark times you are busy that your calendar does not know about. Those answers are yours and behave like any other availability.
04Contacts
If you allow access to contacts, Overlap uses them on your device to suggest people to invite. We upload only the contacts you actually choose to invite.
05What other people see
Within an event, the host and guests see the times each person marked, whether those times are perfect or tentative, and the name each person gave. Nothing else about you travels with an answer.
06How we use it
- To run the product: find overlaps, deliver invitations, confirm times, and show the plan.
- To notify you about events you are part of, using the settings you choose.
- To keep the service secure and to diagnose faults.
- To contact beta testers about the beta.
07Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers to host data, send email and report crashes. They process data on our instructions only. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising.
During the beta we also record sessions. Our analytics provider captures on-screen interactions so we can see what is working and fix what is not. Everything you type is masked: emails, names and other inputs are never captured. Session recording runs only during the beta.
08How long we keep it
Event data stays while the event exists. Guest sessions expire on their own. When you delete your account we remove your profile and the events you own, and detach your answers from events owned by others, within 30 days.
09Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Account deletion is available in the app under Account. For anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days.
10Children
Overlap is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
