Terms of use

Plain terms for a simple product. Overlap helps a group find a time and keep the plan in one place. These terms cover what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.

01Who we are

Overlap is operated by the Overlap team. When these terms say “we” or “us”, they mean that team. When they say “you”, they mean the person using the app or the website.

02Using Overlap

You may use Overlap to organise plans with other people. Creating and managing events happens in the iPhone app. The website exists for one purpose: answering an invitation someone sent you, and using the add-ons for that event.

You need to be at least 13 years old to use Overlap. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission.

03Your account

You can answer an invitation without an account. To create events you need an account, which is tied to your email address or an Apple or Google sign-in.

Keep your access to that email secure, since anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Tell us if you think someone else has access to your account.

04Beta software

Overlap is currently in beta testing. That means the app is incomplete, may change without warning, and may lose data. Features described on our website may change or be removed before general release.

Beta access is distributed through Apple TestFlight on iPhone and through the equivalent Android build. Where a store or distribution service has its own terms, those apply alongside these.

05Your content

Anything you put into Overlap stays yours: event titles, notes, availability, polls, itineraries and expense records. You give us permission to store and display that content to the people you share it with, so the product can work.

You are responsible for what you add, including any personal information you add about other people.

06Events and guests

An event owner controls who can see and answer an event. If you share a public link, anyone holding that link can answer it. Treat a public link as public.

Guests see only what the event shows: the times people marked, the plan around it, and the names people gave. Overlap never shares the detail of anyone's calendar.

07Money between people

Overlap never handles money. Paid events and shared expenses are settled directly between people. Overlap only records what was agreed and who has settled. We take no fee, hold no balance, and are not a party to any payment.

08Acceptable use

Do not use Overlap to harass anyone, to send unsolicited messages, to break the law, or to interfere with the service or the people using it.

  • No attempting to access accounts or events that are not yours.
  • No scraping, automated bulk access, or reselling the service.
  • No uploading content you do not have the right to share.

09Ending your use

You can delete your account in the app at any time, which removes your profile and the events you own. You can stop using Overlap without deleting anything.

We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken in a way that affects other people.

10Liability

Overlap is provided as it is, especially during beta. We do our best to keep it working and your data safe, but we cannot promise the service will be uninterrupted or error free.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including a plan that did not happen. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. If a change is significant we will say so in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the current version.

12Contact

Questions about these terms go to hello@useoverlap.app, or through the contact page.

These terms are written in plain language and have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. Have counsel check them before launch.
